Projects
Telecommunications
This Consultant was appointed programme manager for the development of the customer-facing systems for a telecommunications company. He was responsible for five projects, involving the parallel, interconnected implementations of Clarify eFrontOffice, ATG Dynamo, Interwoven TeamSite, SeeBeyond eInsight and Wipro WebSecure.
His initial contribution was to implement a strong PM discipline, to ensure that responsibilities were clear and to build a programme plan to meet the ambitious time targets. The first phase went live early and was received by users and IS management as an outstanding success. According to the vendor, it was the “most comprehensive single-phase rollout of Clarify modules yet performed”. He was retained to manage two further phases of development of these systems. Together this consumed 35 man years’ effort at a cost of around £4m and involved a systems integrator, consultants and contractors as well as the client’s IT and user staff.
Life & Pensions
This Consultant managed a project to develop an end-to-end system for a pension product. He revived a highly viable project which was about to be terminated and managed to maintain its momentum, despite technical problems and poor business support. The new system was delivered on time and within budget, with a team of twenty IT, user and third-party participants.
Manufacturing
This Consultant was project manager for the development of a European-wide database which held product formulations for an international paints manufacturer. He achieved a 100% on-time delivery on a project where time was a critical success factor. The existing system was being withdrawn and the deadline was not negotiable. All deliverables were produced on time and to specification.
Leisure
He joined a £12 million Sybase development project during its build and extended implementation phases. He became responsible for all planning and control and deputised for the Project Director. He was able to get the project back under control when it had missed a critical milestone. He was appointed to the project management team during a critical re-planning period. He prepared and gained board approval for a strategic-level plan which established the overall direction of the project to completion.
